Aric Mayer is a Kenyan born Brooklyn based artist. He earned a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from John Brown University and a Masters of Fine Arts Degree in Painting from Pratt Institute. Mayer’s work has been sponsored by Hasselblad and Fuji. He won the Time Inc. President’s award for his work at People Magazine on September 11 and 12, 2001. His work has been shown at the Ariel Meyerowitz Gallery in New York City, Consolidated Works in Seattle and Gallery Bienvenu in New Orleans. Mayer’s photographs have been published in numerous publications. In 2001 he won an artist’s residency at the Fundacion Valparaiso in Mojacar, Spain.
He co-founded and was the first president of the Pratt Artists’ League, an artists’ collective specializing in generating new curatorial models for emerging artists. Working with curators from the Museum of Modern Art and the Brooklyn Museum of Art, as well as contemporary collectors and critics, he produced the Pratt Artists’ League’s New York City exhibitions which introduced emerging artists, who later exhibited at the Venice Biennale, the Whitney Biennial, PS 1, and at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. The Pratt Artists’ League projects were awarded grants from the Henry Luce Foundation, Columbia University, the Rema Hort Mann Cultural Support Grants for the Arts, and Pratt Institute.
